Winter Mixed Cabbage Slaw

Winter Mixed Cabbage Slaw, this is the perfect side dish for all the lovely roasted, braised and baked entree’s for Fall and Winter.  I especially love this with my Braised Beef in Red Wine,  Brasato di Manzo recipe here on the blog.  This red and white cabbage slaw is mixed with assorted nuts and seeds, raisins and apples all tossed with a creamy balsamic mayonnaise.   Very easy to construct, with little preparation time, pick up the already shredded cabbages in a bag, along with a nut and seed mix pack, some raisins, an apple and a red onion it is as easy as that.  A simple creamy dressing of aged balsamic vinegar with a little mayonnaise and some olive oil and you have a delicious  Winter Mixed Cabbage Slaw.   Let’s Cook!

Winter Mixed Cabbage Slaw

A perfect side dish for all the lovely fall and winter entrees

  • 3 cups Cabbage slaw mix, red and white cabbage approximately 1 lb weight
  • 3/4 cup Mixed seeds and nuts
  • 3/4 cup Raisins
  • 1 large Apple, i.e. Fuji or gala
  • 1 medium Red onion
  • 1/2 cup Dried cranberries or berries
  • 3 tbls Mayonnaise (high quality)
  • 2 tbls Balsamic vinegar, aged
  • 2 tbls Extra virgin olive oil
  • Sea salt and fresh ground pepper (to taste)


  1. In a serving bowl add the cabbage, nuts, raisins, dried berries

  2. Peel, core and chop the apple into small bite size pieces, add to cabbage mix

    Peel and slice the onion into very thin slices, cut slices in half and separate, add to cabbage mix

  3. In a small bowl, add the mayonnaise, balsamic vinegar, mix in the olive oil pour over the cabbage mixture

    Add Salt and pepper, mix taste to adjust seasoning.
